How the Helping Hand Radio Auction Works
If you are new to Helping Hand or have only heard about it in passing, you might wonder what the radio auction is and how the whole process works. The truth is, it is one of Henry County’s most cherished traditions. Every winter, neighbors, local groups, and listeners come together to raise funds that support programs across our community.
Here is a friendly walk through of how it all works.
It Begins with Local Groups
Each day during the auction season belongs to a local group, church, business, school, or club. That group collects donated items, prepares homemade meals or baked goods, and brings everything to the Helping Hand building on their assigned day. These donations become the list for that day’s auction.
The Live Broadcast Brings the Community Together
From 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday through Saturday, the items are read live on the radio. Families listen at home, at work, and in their cars. Some people tune in just to hear the excitement. Others listen closely for specific items they want to bid on.
Anyone Can Bid by Phone
As each item is read over the air, listeners call in and place their bids. It is fast paced and fun, and it has been a beloved local tradition for many years. If your bid wins, your name goes on the pick up list for that day.
Winners Pick up Items at the Paris Convention Center
When the broadcast ends at 5:00 pm, winning bidders come to the Paris Convention Center to pay for and pick up their items. This creates a steady rhythm all season long. Groups host their day. Listeners tune in. Bidders participate. The community shows up.
Every Dollar Stays in Henry County!
All funds raised through the auction stay right here in our county. The money is distributed to programs and organizations that support youth, seniors, community welfare, health and well being, emergency services, fire and rescue support, and more.
Helping Hand works because Henry County comes together. It is neighbors helping neighbors. It is generosity in action. If you want to learn how to participate, visit our Get Involved page.
